The Plastic Ocean Foundation UK is the founding organisation and a UK Registered Charity, started by Jo Ruxton and Sonjia Norman in 2009. They met in Hong Kong when filming for the BBC and spent 8 years creating an international, critically acclaimed film called ‘A Plastic Ocean’. Jo was determined to tell the world about the harm our plastic addiction was doing to the marine environment and the possible human costs. She brought in cameramen and TV presenters, such as Sir David Attenborough and Dr Sylvia Earle to help make promotional videos, along with a team of advisers from the worlds of science, business, education and sustainability. The Plastic Ocean Foundation are now building links with industry, particularly those with close ties to the oceans, to encourage the exchange of best practice, cost and waste reduction methods and other activities aimed at reducing our plastic footprint and preventing plastic waste in our oceans.
Three Piece are supporting Jo and Sonjia because we believe that the information they supply on world pollution and their motive behind it all is honest. The foundation are actively trying to prevent plastic wastage on an international scale by making everyone aware of how serious the problem is. Even as a small, independent business we know that we can still make a difference to tackle the wider problem by reaching a privileged audience in Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire, who influence the London area and can therefore spread the word even further.
Charities always needs funding to help prevent climate change, protect our forests and clean the oceans, but you don’t always have to donate to support the cause. You can reduce, reuse, recycle, follow them online, discuss these subjects with family and friends, or watch thier movie on Netflix!
